I had the brilliant idea in the fall of ´98 to attend a 7 am accounting class which to me at the time sounded sane! As I entered the parking lot at SMC at 6:45 am on a cold and foggy saturday morning (oh yeah did I forget to mention it was a weekend class) I was less than chipper. Walking through the desolated campus where the only sign of life was a blinking light from a coke machine I managed to pass a fellow human. Which in on its own was not that important until I heard that some one say "miss" and I looked back. The other unfortunate human on campus had addressed me and was walking towards me again. And the first thing he says when he reaches me is THANK YOU! I couldn't for the life of me think what I had done, so my natural instinct was to assume he was being sarcastic. He then went on to explain to me that he had been in a rather bad mood and then out of the fog I came and gave him a big smile as I passed him bye. And it made him feel better. Unknowingly I had made a difference in a persons life and this random stranger had forever changed mine. Today I make a point when I pass people to smile, no matter where I am or how I feel. Most the time I don't get a smile back but in my heart I know I am making someone feel a little better. Thank you stranger!
